To label Sling's music with mildly annoying bio cliches such as "Heavy yet Melodic" or "An Emotional Rollercoaster that leaves you wanting more" seems hardly fitting. Featuring former members of successful Dallas bands Advent, Altered, Fray, and Neverset, Sling's entire goal lies in shedding both the standard conventions of Metal and Hard Rock alike. At the center of said shedding stands a very tall and angry sounding human. Metal staples claim that he has to sing about hatred, or politics. Hard Rock claims that he must sing about an ex girlfriend, sex, or a combination thereof. Avoiding these themes like bubonic plague, Sling performs music that likens itself to the sounds of someone receiving a sledgehammer to the temple, who occasionally stops to sing a snappy tune in between blows. While most bands can get together and form a mediocre set in a couple of months, Sling spent a year and a half to go from concept to performance, and that meticulous attention to detail shows in the music. Metal staples also claim that the musicians must always play complicated parts, and never let the songs (and consequently themselves) "breathe." Well, perhaps some standards are worth keeping.
