The Future Unlived
Forming in 2005, Arlington, TX-based garage/indie rockers The Future
Unlived have slowly garnered a local following of faithful fans. Now with the recent
release of their self-titled, self-released E.P., The Future Unlived is poised to expose their
gritty cocktail of energetic, genre-bending rock to the masses. At the core of the band are
frontman Danny Future and guitarist/soundscape manipulator Deff Javis, who
serendipitously met through a mutual friend and immediately recognized the musical
chemistry. After going through more drummers than Spinal Tap (including one who stole
the band’s drum set with his departure), the band has settled on its current lineup
including drummer Justin Tyme and bassist Jesse (“The Professor”) Meik. The Future Unlived brings influences from a variety of rock subgenres, an undercurrent of blues-rock is nearly always present in their songs.
The band takes its name from a quotation by jazz great Charlie Parker, who when
asked to describe his sound in an interview, replied: “It sounds like the future unlived”.
Incidentally, members of the band are fans of the low-budget sci-fi flixs of the 50s and
60s, and the name has acquired a second meaning, which plays on our present society
living in a vision of the future that remains unlived. It is from this second meaning, that
the band motif of rocket ships, robots, space travel, and pinup girls (all of which go hand
in hand in the Flash Gordon version of the future) emerged.
